Diversion courts acknowledge that certain challenges in your life may have caused you to be facing an offense, and give you an opportunity to face either a lesser charge or lesser sentencing as a result of your successful completion of their particular programming. These courts don't exist in every county, and Ms. Molodetz can help you navigate the jurisdiction in which you are charged.
Teen Court allows defendants who were 18 and under at the time of the alleged offense to participate in their program for a reduced plea or sentence, depending on what you are charged with. Teen court accepts defendants charged with non-violent felonies, misdemeanors, and violations.
S.A.F.E. is an acronym which stands for Surviving and Finding Empowerment. The court exists to help women, and anyone who identifies as a woman, survive difficult life circumstances and to find empowerment outside of their situations. The program includes meeting with the court coordinators to determine which aspects of life you could use assistance with and sets goals for you to accomplish. Goals like meeting with mental health professionals, medical doctors, receiving treatment for substance abuse, obtaining safe, affordable housing, and getting help with childcare are among the many things S.A.F.E. court can help provide. The Court functions by establishing a set of goals for you to accomplish and allows you to plead guilty to a lesser offense, receive an ACD, or a lesser sentence upon your successful completion of those goals.
OSP is the only diversion court where you cannot finish out your case – also known as a non-dispositive court. Its purpose is to help you get on your feet while struggling with an opioid addiction, so that you might answer your charges more effectively in the future. They help you gain stability through treatment and housing. After you are determined to be stable your case will return to a criminal court so it may be disposed of.
